ZhiliGovernor'sOfficewasimportantinhistoryasitheldastrategiclocationforthecapitalcityanditsenvirons.Duringits187yearsoperation,74governorsserved99termshere,allofwhomweresignificantofficialsofthecentralcourt,includingsuchfamousfiguresasFangGuancheng,LiuYong,RongLu,ZengGuofan(TsengKuo-fan),LiHongzhang(LiHung-chang)andYuanShikai.Amongthem,LiHongzhangservedforthelongestterm,aslongas25years.Thesesignificantofficialsfromthecentralcourt,fromhere,releasedorderstoallpartsoftheprovince,whichmadetheOfficecloselyrelatedtoalotofimportanteventsintheQingDynasty.Beingtheconcentrationandwitnessofhistory,theGovernor-general’sOfficehasalothistoricalstoriestooffer.

“Agovernor-general’sofficetellshalfoftheQingDynasty’shistory.”It’snoboastingtousethisexpressiontodescribetheabundanthistoricalmaterialsofferedbytheOffice.ZhiliGovernor'sOfficeiswelcomingvisitorsfromhomeandabroadwithitselaboratelayout,grandsize,uniquearchitecturalstyleandrichhistoricalcontents.

TheZhiliGovernor'sOffice,firstlybuiltintheseventhyearoftheEmperorYongzheng’sreign(A.D.1729),wastheworkingvenueforthetopmilitaryandadministrativeofficerofZhiliProvince(today’sHebeiProvince)inQingDynasty,andisnowtheonlyexistingprovincialadministrativebuildingcomplexthatisrelativelywellpreservedasawhole.
